UPMC Lifestyle Medicine

UPMC Lifestyle Medicine specializes in management of chronic disease. Our providers are experts at helping patients better manage, improve, and, in some cases, reverse chronic disease. This includes diagnoses such as: obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and pre-diabetes, digestive disease (gastroparesis, IBS, constipation, IBD, etc.), high cholesterol, liver disease, other cardiovascular disease and risk factors, and much more. This also includes disorders/conditions such as: anxiety, depression, difficulty managing stress, sleep disorders, eating disorders including emotional eating and binge eating, social isolation, substance use (nicotine/smoking, alcohol, drugs) and much more.

UPMC Lifestyle Medicine is a medical specialty within the Department of Family Medicine. By looking at the root cause of disease through six categories of health (referred to as the six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine), research shows patients who implement Lifestyle Medicine strategies can improve how they feel and function, report improved satisfaction and experiences in their health care, have better outcomes, and spend less money and resources on managing health.
