Robin M Maier, MD, MA

Biography

Dr. Robin Maier is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine, Department of Family Medicine.  She was awarded a B.S. in physics-in-medicine and English literature by the University of Notre Dame in 1990. She was a part of the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois, earning her MA in English and American literature in 1992, and her MD in 1998. 

She completed her residency in Family Medicine at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in 2004.

Dr. Maier served as a volunteer faculty member of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, teaching Medicine and Literature starting in 2006, while working clinically at the Mon Valley Community Health Center, a FQHC. In 2008, she joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh, initially working clinically at the Matilda Theiss Health Center.

Dr. Maier is the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education in the department.  She works as a Family Physician at the Squirrel Hill Family Practice, and at Magee Hospital.  She offers a mini-elective course on “Literature and Medicine” periodically to medical students. She also developed and is currently serving as the Director of the Longitudinal Alliance Project.
