Dr. Raquel Zemtsov grew up just outside of Muncie, IN and attended Vanderbilt University where she majored in Neuroscience and minored in Acting/ Directing and Medicine, Health, & Society. After college, she obtained her Master of Public Health from Case Western Reserve University with a track in Health Policy and Administration. Dr. Zemtsov then went to medical school at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She graduated medical school with both Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Society designations. She initially began residency training in a surgical sub-specialty but quickly discovered that her interests most closely aligned with Family Medicine. Dr. Zemtsov went on to complete her Family Medicine residency at the UPMC St. Margaret Family Medicine Residency Program where she served as the Chief of Policy in her final year and completed an area of concentration in Addiction Medicine.
Dr. Zemtsov is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and has special interests in medical education, addiction medicine, refugee medicine, care for the underserved, and procedural care. She is a Faculty Physician at the UPMC Matilda Theiss Health Center where she provides comprehensive primary care to patients living in and around the Hill District. Dr. Zemtsov also serves as a Clinical Skills Preceptor for the medical students in the class of 2028, instructing students on how to effectually and compassionately perform medical interviews and physical examinations. Dr. Zemtsov additionally staffs dedicated addiction medicine clinics and precepts residents at the UMPC McKeesport Family Medicine Residency Program. Outside of her dedicated teaching and clinical duties, Dr. Zemtsov also precepts residents at the Birmingham Free Clinic, performs and precepts forensic medical evaluations for refugees seeking asylum through the Human Rights Clinic via the University of Pittsburgh Schools of Law and Medicine, and interviews applicants for the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
In her spare time, Dr. Zemtsov enjoys exploring Pittsburgh and all of its beautiful green spaces, hiking, gardening, improv comedy, and spending time with friends and loved ones.
